The Gospel

I guess I'll go off on yet another tangent, as I'm prone to do. Is there any rhyme or reason to this blog?!?! :-) ...

I heard an intriguing quote recently: "Once the gospel is tamed, it is no longer powerful." It's not that there isn't power in the gospel - that is completely not the case. What I think this person meant was that as we tame the gospel, conveniently and comfortably fitting it into our lives, the identity of the gospel is essentially lost in its purest form. We have therefore distorted its message, but although hidden, the content remains unchanged. What do you think? Is this in line with scripture?

I want us to explore two things here:
  1. What is the gospel? How does scripture define it?
  2. How is the gospel powerful? What kind of power is lost in taming the gospel?

That should give us enough to chew on for a bit. Please let me know your thoughts as you explore God's Word. May our study be fruitful.
