Philippians 1:27-30
As I was studying the Word of God today, I was reminded how little I know it. And yet the Spirit of God has stirred within me a hunger to know Him more through His Word. I'm thankful to be studying Philippians with you and pray that God blesses our understanding of His Word so that our conduct is worthy of the gospel of Christ. So dive into Philippians 1:27-30 and enjoy the treasures found there. God's blessings be upon you.

* Paul asks the Philippian believers to "let your conduct be worthy of the gospel." According to these verses, what does this look like?
As you may know, I tend to heap a lot of guilt on myself with verses like these. My conduct can never be perfect so I walk around feeling like a failure. But what I believe this verse is saying is along the lines of Phil. 3:16 "Only let us live up to what we have already attained." This helps me to remember that trying to live a self-disciplined holy life isn't to attain something - it's to live up to what I've already attained through Jesus. That really encourages me to live well and keeps me from self-condimnation.
* Paul encouraged them to "not be terrified by [their} adversaries." Why?
Becuase if their adversaries continue to reject the gospel, they will meet distruction (hell), and that the Phil.'s troubles are also a sign that they are being persecuted as Jesus was (they are in good company, and trials are to be expected when living for God.)
* What was Paul reminding them of in verse 29? Why do you suppose they needed to hear this?
I may have answered that above. I should add that with trials always come spiritual blessings.
Looking forward to reading your inights into these verses.
Carmen says:
Conduct that is worthy of the gospel (within the church) is standing as one, without fighting among one another. When we unite we are much stronger to face the opposition of the devil and to serve Christ. We so often forget within the church what is important...and we don't see that Satan is trying to break us apart within the church family. Satan is threatened more within the church body than anywhere else in our lives because he sees our strenth against him.
Suffering for Christ is a result of our faithful service. Suffering also helps us to focus our eyes on Him and not on the worldly comforts that surround us. Christians must unite for the same end result...spreading God's good news. We must remember who we serve and why we are here in the first place.
