Phil 1:12-14

These few verses had much more to say than I had anticipated. I hope you can dive in and glean more than meets the eye initially. Here are a few guiding questions as you read …

  • What did Paul say was the purpose of his trials?
  • What was Paul’s outlook on his trials? How could this be?
  • How was the gospel advanced?
  • What did Paul mean when he said his “chains are in Christ?”
  • What do these verses declare about God?

God’s grace and peace be upon you.

Paul said his imprisonment has given others the courage to preach the Gospel more boldly.

Everyone in the palace guard knew that Paul was in jail because of Christ. People were talking.

The Gospel was going out to people.
Instead of Paul's brothers hiding until times were safer, they became even bolder. This is God's work, for sure.

Chains in Christ makes me think of how nothing that happens to us can happen apart from God's will, so Paul knows it's ultimately going to be good.

These verses declare to me that God is sovereign and unstopable.
